Aggressive behavior in dogs can have many different causes including for instance:

A dominant dog that wants to enforce its dominance over you

An cause that was not dealt with since the dog was a puppy – such as an attack by another dog.

It does not matter what causes your dog’s aggression, it is key that it be dealt with as soon as possible. Prolonged aggression when left alone in a dog can get worse, and be dangerous to all parties involved.

Train the dog properly from 6 weeks of age.

The first source of aggression as well as aggressive behavior in dogs starts from about 6 weeks of age. At this age care should be taken with a puppy to socialize it with other dogs, and train it to be people friendly. This crucial period of socialization in a dogs life lasts up to about 14 weeks of age, an it can last even longer than that.

In this period care should be taken with the puppy in regards with the following:

The puppy should not be taken from the litter before he/she is at least 8 weeks old

Treat the puppy gently. And without strict discipline between the ages of 8 and 10 weeks

Refrain from hitting or yelling at the puppy during this period as it can breed aggressive behavior in the dog at a later stage

It is important that a dog has been socialized with people as well as other dogs at 14 weeks of age to make sure it does not develop any aggressive behavior in the future. Aggression in dogs can be caused and triggered by many different factors including genetics as well as heredity, but by proper socializing and training in this first 14 week period you can largely neutralize any aggressive heredity tendencies in a dog. It is also a good idea to have your dog spayed or neutered as it will lessen aggressiveness.

Create the right environment for the dog

The number one factor that can create aggressive behavior in dogs is their environment. A dog that is mistreated, which lives in very poor conditions, and are not used to people or other dogs is far more likely to be aggressive as it gets older.

It is crucial that you as the dog owner establish dominance at a young age over the dog, and continue to be the dominant pack leader throughout the dog’s adolescence in order to prevent the dog in gaining that dominant position over the household.

Aggressive behavior in dogs can be the result of the dog feeling the need to establish him in the pack. When a dog bites or shows other aggressive tendencies it is often the result of it testing for pack dominance.

How to stop and control aggressive behavior in dogs

It is crucial that you try to remedy any aggressive behavior in your dog after it is 14 months of age, immediately. If you leave the aggression and not address the problem it will only get worse.

The first step is to make sure that you are the pack leader, and not your dog. Be sure not to reward your dog for any aggressive behavior.

Your dog should be trained to listen to you, and you should control walking as well as feeding times.

Try to establish a routine and walk and feed your dog the same times every day.

You must be a strong pack leader to your dog, and not allow it to take any liberties otherwise the aggressive behavior will only get worse.

Defensive-aggressive dogs are usually not properly socialized, and they can often strike out and bite out of fear. They are often dangerous to small children due to the fact that the dog can see them as a direct threat. It is good to seek out specialist training for such a dog, or see a dog behaviorist.

Aggressive behavior in dogs can be a very big problem, but with the right training as well as environment for the dog such behavior can be controlled and even prevented entirely.

There’s generally a reason why dogs are called man’s best friend. They are loveable and loyal creatures which have made them a household pet and considered by most as an extended member of the family. Having a dog though is not a walk in the park as it is a big responsibility that you must take seriously. You would need to take time and exert effort to take care of a dog as well as make sure that it is always safe.

One of the ways to ensure the safety of your pooch is by making use of a wireless fence for dogs. This wireless fence is geared to keep your dog away from dangerous areas and to make sure that he does not run away. There are a lot of advantages of using this cutting edge technology as compared to the old way of building your dog a fence. Let us take a look at some of the biggest advantages of getting a wireless fence for your dog.

Safety Comes First – Having a wireless fence will give you peace of mind by knowing that your dog cannot run or stray away from home. You might think that you can just train your dog but sometimes, there are simply some unexpected factors. If a dog will run away, it will be prone to the hazards of the real world such as cars or other animals which might hurt it. You may opt for an actual fence in your yard but a dog can dig a hole under it or even jump over it. This is why you should make use of a wireless dog fence as it is better equipped to help keep your dog safe.

More Economical – Having wireless dog fencing is clearly a great option because it is very cost efficient. You would not need to build a fence around your entire house just to make sure your dog does not run away. Building an actual fence will take time and more importantly, it will cost money which your family can use for other purposes. Imagine the effort and expenses which you will have to shoulder to keep your dog safe. With the wireless system, you will only need to buy the actual device which is far less expensive than building a fence out of scratch. This is especially true for those with wide lawns and backyards as building a fence would cost tons of money. Buying the wireless or electric fence for dogs is simply less expensive and even more effective in keeping your dog safe.

It is More Convenient – Having a wireless or underground fence for dogs is also more convenient to have rather than constructing an actual fence around your house. This is because you can install a wireless system in only a matter of hours. Building a fence, on the other hand, would take time and effort to complete. In a wireless system, simple installation instructions are included so any person will have a very easy time setting everything up.

If you really love your dog, then get the best protection that you can for it. A dog’s love and companionship is priceless so make sure you find the best way to keep them safe.

The Petsafe wireless fence is a very innovative pet containment product that is taking the pet industry by storm. It is a great product that ensures the safety and security of your pet without the difficult setup process often required by other pet containment products.

Here are some questions that are frequently asked by people who are unfamiliar with the product.

How does the Petsafe wireless containment device work?

It makes use of radio technology and state of the art electronics in order to establish boundaries for your pet. It is comprised out of two parts, the transmitter and the collar. The transmitter emits a signal to the specially designed collar worn by your pet. If the pet strays a certain distance away from the transmitter, the pet feels a tingling sensation from the collar. This makes the pet stop and return back to the transmitter in order to make the tingling sensation go away. Some pet owners place flags within the outward range of the transmitter in order to let the pets identify it as an imaginary boundary.

How strong is the tingling sensation felt by the pet from the Petsafe collar?

You can adjust the intensity of the tingling sensation felt by your pet. You do not need to set it at the strongest setting. All you need is to set it at a level strong enough that it would make your pet uncomfortable.

Will my pet feel any pain from the petsafe wireless dog fence?

Many pet owners shy away from using the Petsafe collar because they think their pets will be harmed. This is not true. Pets who wear the Petsafe collar only feels discomfort from the collar if they stray a certain range away from the Petsafe transmitter. The discomfort is enough to train your pet to not stray away from the designated area.

What are the benefits offered by Petsafe wireless fences?

Petsafe wireless fencing offers a lot of benefits. Here is a list of some of those benefits.

If you have a particularly large dog, you have to invest heavily to build a sturdy fence that can prevent the dog from straying away from the safety of your home. Whether it is a wooden fence or a wire mesh fence, you need to spend a lot of money in order to build it for your dog. If you use a Petsafe containment collar, not only will you be able to save money, you also will be saved the hassle of building the fence

The Petsafe containment collar trains your dog to consciously keep itself within the safe area of your home. This enables the dog to ignore the urge to chase after various things that may lead to them being run over by cars on the road.

Dogs feel bad if they are confined in a traditional fence because they tend to be claustrophobic. With a Petsafe collar, they do not feel that they are confined because the only thing keeping them within an area is a discomforting feeling on their neck.

An electric dog fence is an important tool in keeping your dog safe in your home and prevents him from running away. There are a lot of different kinds of electric dog fences from various companies. Each one has its own advantages and disadvantages. This is why it is recommended that you check out your options before finally deciding to purchase one. We have some electric dog fence reviews here to help you make the right choice.

C No Pet Fence – This company was established in 1991 by owners Bruce and Sue Thompson. They are offering their services to the Chicago and Southern Wisconsin area. They offer several different products to ensure that your dog is safe and secured in your home. Their DogWatch line of products offers you the peace of mind that your dog will be out of harm’s way within your vicinity. Whether you want to contain your dog in a small area or a large area of up to 200 acres, the DogWatch products give you the flexibility that makes it one of the best in the industry. If you are living in the Chicago or Southern Wisconsin area and looking for an electric dog fence, then you better give this company a call. You can contact them for a free estimate on their website.

Innotek – Innotek is another company which offers electric dog fence services. Unlike C No, Innotek has a farther reaching scope as it covers wider areas. They also cater to international orders. One of the systems which are offered by Innotek is the Ultrasmart Pet Fence system which is an in-ground electric fence. The great thing about the Ultrasmart system is you have the flexibility in terms of controlling the amount of correction your dog receives. This way you can adapt it based on the threshold you have observed on your dog. You neither want it to be too much nor too light that it is considered negligible. The Innotek dog fence installation guide is easy to follow and implement. This makes it one of the best options to use for your pet fence needs.

PetSafe – This is another provider of electric dog fences to keep your pooch secured. The PetSafe wireless dog fence product is manufactured and distributed in the United States as well as in 46 other countries all over the world. They offer several options for fencing such as Wireless and In-ground fences. One compliment that this company has been constantly receiving in some of the invisible dog fence reviews is that they offer great value for money. This is because their products are very customisable. They offer many features that are not found in many of its competitors.

Any of the three options above will offer you great security for your dog and will help you be confident that your trusty best friend is safe within the comforts of your home. Check them out for yourself and choose which one is the best for you.

Training your dog can be a very daunting task. There are some breeds of dogs which are more resistant to training while some may require extra effort and attention. Whichever kind of dog you have, it is always best to try to give them the best training possible because it can make your life easier in the long run. One of the tools that can help you achieve this goal is the electric dog collar.

Electric dog collars are used as a way to control your pet dog even without having a leash tied to it. It is a great and safe piece of equipment to assist you in training your dog. The term electric might make you think that it is hurting the dog but that is not the case. They are safe to use on dogs and does not cause them any harm. There are a lot of advantages of using an electric collar and we’ll go over some of them below.

It Can Be Used for Any Kind of Dog – An electric dog training collar can be used on different kinds of dogs. It can be very flexible to use and is very advantageous, especially if you are training more than one dog or several different breeds. It can be easily fitted on dogs of any size which make it a great tool if you are considering breeding dogs. Unlike other approaches to training which vary depending on the kind of dog you are planning to train, an electric shock dog collar is equally effective no matter what kind of dog you have.

More Controlled Timing – Any trainer would tell you that the timing of giving a signal to the dog after an action is important in getting the best possible result and training the dog faster. With a dog shock collar, you can have more control in terms of giving reinforcement to the dog. If you do it manually, you would need a few seconds to give the treat to the dog. With electric dog shock collars, you can immediately give the signal to the dog once he does your desired action. The quicker you can give the reinforcement after the desired behavior, the faster you will be able to train your dog to do what you want him to do.

More Flexible in Terms of Distance – Unlike other training methods such as giving treats or taking slack on a leash which requires the owner or trainer to be in close proximity with the dog, an electric collar can help you give the signal to your dog even if you are some distance from it. This makes it more convenient to the owner and allows him to adjust his training methods accordingly. There’s no need to be near your dog in giving the reinforcement. This gives the owner more freedom and control in how he trains his dog.

If you are looking at training your dog, this tool is an excellent option that you should consider. It is convenient and absolutely safe for your dog.

German Shepherds are great dogs for certain people.

German Shepherds are an active breed of dog. They need a lot of mental stimulation. It’s a very social dog that needs to be with it’s owner and family. Many Germans, due to their bloodlines, can have a variety of personality traits. They can be aloof, friendly, shy, timid, aggressive, energetic and all in between. They do become destructive when they are bored and wanting to be with their family. Early training is a must for these dogs. German Shepherd training will help burn off some energy, teach him what is expected, form a bond between you two and provide a learning experience for you both. Another function of training will be to establish dominance between you two.

He must know where he fits in. If he doesn’t know his place within the family, he will become aggressive and try to take over the family. A dog of any breed must know his place and where he fits in. Even the meekest dog will take over if allowed to.

Many would think that the German Shepherd is a hard dog to train, they are quite easy. They want to obey and learn what you want. Yet it takes a special person to be able to handle these dogs and give them what they want.

Akitas aren’t for the first time dog owner, even though they are handsome dogs that can take your breath away. They are an independent breed of dog with the intelligence to match. They are strong-willed and have an strong desire in their make up to become the leader of the pack. Yet for those who understand and love this breed they are a great dog. They are loyal, never bark without a reason, blow their coats twice a year and make a great family dog. Akita training needs firmness and patience. These dogs can and will act stupid and cute so that you are distracted from your task. Don’t let them fool you.

They can be taught to do many things and are a great dog to have around the home.

So, whether you have a German Shepherd, an Akita, a Chihuahua or any of the other many dog breeds out there, be sure to get them specialized training. Even though they are all canines, they all have special considerations that you must take into account for training to be successful.

There are many different ways to train dogs and there are many different techniques involved and opinions on what works and what doesn’t. Nevertheless when it comes to aggressive dog training, a good number of dog professionals concur that it ought to be undertaken by knowledgeable professionals and not by amateurs.
There is also a general concencus that both the pet owner, and also the canine, should be attending each and every training session together so as that they form a bond.
Additionally, dog behavioral experts are convinced that it must be performed for practically the whole first 12 months of the canines life. Unfortunately that is just not not possible in most cases which makes training the dog even harder and usually means the dog having to go to dog school.

If your dog is aggressive, the first thing you need to do is to start out as quickly as possible and join a class which has a professional instructor, who has numerous years of experience. You need to ensure that you are being educated by a person who is knowledgeable as well as successful at changing the behaviour of aggressive dogs.

You will also need to ensure that your pet responds to the actual training, and that it pass the actual instructional classes. In cases where they don’t, you will need to enroll them again to totally eradicate their aggressive behavior.
An aggressive doggie can be dangerous in the event that it is not trained correctly, and especially if it does not obey its owner. This is the reason it is so critical that the owner attends instructional classes with the actual canine.
Don’t wait until it’s too late and something bad happens. Begin teaching your dog at the earliest opportunity for your own safety and for that of others.

It is a rewarding experience to own a pet; however, a person needs to have the proper information on hand in order to ensure that his or her pet will remain happy and healthy. One common affliction of household pets, especially dogs, is the presence of ear mites. These small parasites can be transferred from one dog to another, and they typically live within the pet’s ear canal. Since they can be spread from one pet to another, virtually anywhere a person takes his or her dog, could potentially place the pet at risk. This is especially true if the dog comes in contact with an animal whose owner does not practice proper hygiene with regard to his or her pet.

Dog ear mites are small parasites that feed on the pet’s ear canals, causing excessive discomfort and pain. Inflammation may also be present, and the dog should be kept away from other pets. A visit to an animal doctor will confirm the diagnosis, at which point treatment can be started.

It may be necessary to use a combination of topical and oral medications to completely clear up the dog mites. It is vital that the treatment plan outlined by the veterinarian be followed to the letter, as this is the only way the condition can be eliminated. One should keep in mind, however, that it is not only just the dogs ears that need attention, but consideration should be given to overall health and grooming of the dog, as well. This includes nail trims as well as regular brushing.

Keeping the dog’s coat sleek and shiny can be a challenge, and one of the best ways to accomplish this is to choose the best comb for the dog’s hair. A pin comb works well on dogs that have curly hair, while a slicker comb best suits dogs with longer hair. A dog brush for shedding is an excellent choice for dogs that lose a lot of hair while being brushed. These brushes quickly remove extra hair that has died and is trapped in the dog’s undercoat.

Nail trims are also an important part of a dog’s grooming needs. This is especially true if the dog suffers from ear mites, as split or sharp nails can further aggravate sore ears if the dog begins scratching. It is better to begin giving a dog nail trims while it is still a puppy. This ensures that the dog will get use to the procedure and will not panic when it must be done. Dog nail trimming prevents the dog’s toenails from getting caught in the home’s carpet, or bending on hard wood floors, thus ensuring the safety and comfort of the dog.

According to the Humane Society of the United States there are 77.5 million dogs and 93.6 million cats living in homes across the country. The statistics for other pets are not as large, but the Humane Society’s studies show that pets of one kind or another are found in nearly every home in the U.S.

Thanks to the internet and wholesale pet supply companies there are lots of options for pet owners looking for pet food storage that looks more like furniture than a storage container. And pet food storage furniture can look like almost anything. Imagine an old fashioned apple barrel or feed bucket with a lid, a standard wood storage cabinet or a pretty pink plastic low chest with food and water bowl storage underneath. What about an English sideboard complete with drawers for snacks and treats and a large pull-out storage bin that can hold up to 50 lbs of dry food? Put a fluffy pillow on top and place it in front of a window and voila it’s the perfect perch for the cat who has everything and everything needs a place.

Maine Bucket Co. actually makes a half-round storage container that looks like a half-round whiskey barrel. Made of Northern white cedar with a flip up lid, these are an attractive alternative to the plastic pet food bins that can be left in a corner of a family room or kitchen. No one need ever know it’s not just a pretty accessory to your home decor.

Another great way to incorporate food storage that looks like furniture into your home is with a beadboard pet food container by Orvis. Styled to resemble a potato bin or an old cedar chest, with a hinged lid to keep food clean and dry, these are both attractive and practical. Some even have cut outs for food and water dishes on the top to create an elevated feeding station that even the pickiest decorator will have trouble finding fault with.

Because this kind of storage is often made of wood, a plastic liner may be a good thing to add if not included with the piece. To cut down on the risk of contamination by organisms that cause stain and odor and mold and mildew, there are now on the market, storage containers made with Microban technology. Available in a wide range of sizes there is sure to be one that will fit into your home like a glove.

Using dog crates and kennels to confine pets may seem to be a little harsh, however this is definitely not so. Not only do they provide a haven and a place to call their own, they also provide protection and a way to discipline an animal without resorting to violence.

My daughter wanted a dog. I explained that it would require her to be responsible for certain chores that she would not always be willing to do. I explained that if I had to pay for a dog, its food, toys, and medical bills, she would have to commit to spending time with her pet and provide the emotional and disciplinary support it needs. This obviously sounded great to a ten year old girl… she doesn’t have to pay for anything, just play with it and train it a little bit. As you can imagine, this illusion went out the window within the first week.

Once my daughter woke up to the reality of daily walks, picking up dog poop, giving up TV time in order to play with a very rambunctious puppy, bi-weekly baths, keeping the water bowl filled and making sure her dog was fed the correct amount three times a day, being kept up at night, etc… she realized what I meant by being responsible. I must say that this was a brilliant life lesson for her.

Despite any negative feelings of regret or guilt, my little girl stepped up. She went online and did a fair amount of research and to my surprise she came up with several excellent ideas using a cage or crate and an outdoor kennel to solve many of her doggie troubles.

The dog crate has become invaluable. First and foremost it has become HIS spot. This is where he goes to stash his toy or to simply chill out for a while. My daughter has made it very comfy for him with a big blanket. After only a few days he became accustomed to it and knows that this is his place. Also, the crate is the perfect spot for a “time out.” If Cody (that’s his name) jumps up on the table or eats a slipper he gets a time out in the crate. When used consistently it lets him know what he is allowed to do and what he is not allowed to do without resorting to hitting. Just stick him in the crate for a few minutes. The trick is to be sure that the cage is not exclusively associated with disciplinary punishment. This worked out well for us because we introduced it to him as a home first. The usage as a time out was secondary. Its like being sent to your room when you’re bad, if you have cool stuff in your room and you like it there, its OK, you know you are being punished but you can listen to the stereo or chew on a sows ear and everything cool.

We also got a dog kennel for the yard. This type of kennel is simply a steel mesh with four posts. Big enough for him to wander a bit but no so big that it takes up too much of the yard. This works well for us because we live near a fairly busy street and have had a few incidents where he gets away and goes onto the road. Panic sets in so you run after him yelling his name. He of course thinks you are playing catch-me-if-you-can and is not aware enough to notice two tons of metal coming at him 30 mile per hour. The kennel is a great solution for the dog that wants to be outside but the human doesn’t.

With these two items, the dog crate and kennel, my daughter has much more control and a bit more sanity as she doesn’t have to watch over her dog 24 hours a day, everyone is happy.
